Mulu NP – Canopy Walk, more Caves and Millions of Bats

This next morning we left camp 5 the same way we got there (8km hike, followed by a trip on a longboat) and made our way back to the park head quarters.

After a confusing lunch some of us headed over to the canopy walk to get a glimpse of the rainforest from top.

After the canopy walk, we joined up with the others to walk over to entrance area of two more caves – Deer Cave and Lang’s Cave. Deer Cave is the bigger of the two, supposed to be the world’s biggest cave passage, it is inhabited by millions of bats – and a nice guano smell.

Thanks to the state of Sarawak by the way … swine flu masks work nicely against the bad guano smell and the particles hanging in the air 😉

After a tour of the caves we made it back outside to wait for dusk – to see millions of bats leaving the cave on their search for food.
