This morning we were picked up by the most local form of transport available – Cidamos (horse drawn carriages, also dubbed Lombok Ferrari in the Intrepid material).
We made our way through town (with people staring at us for a change) to the local market at Kota Raja. On arrival at the market, we left the cidamos behind for a moment and had a tour through the market.
Afterward we continued by cidamo to the nearby craft village of Loyok – to learn about bamboo weaving (and – guess what – get yet another opportunity to buy some souvenirs).
From Loyok we continued to Lendang Nangka to see a blacksmith at work and (that bit more extensively) the process to produce bricks. What I found shocking is how work is distributed between men and women – most of the actual work seems to be done by the women, while the men just standing around smoking … At least no one tried to sell bricks to us as souvenirs 😉
