We left Punakaiki in the early afternoon, starting our 220 km journey down the coast to Franz Josef and the glacier.

There was enough on the way to keep us busy – from hiking to a waterfall (which I did) to more adventurous (and dirty) ATV rides or stops on the way with options for coffee, tea, ice cream, souvenir shopping – or simply a walk around.

We made it into Franz Josef in the early evening, in time to get booked for the next day, a group dinner in a restaurant and some quality time with a billiard table.
