Welcome to Canada and what is probably the most unlikely entry point to the country – Clyde River, located in Clyde Inlet at the Northern side of Baffin Island at 70°28.5′ N, 68°35’ W, covering about 900 inhabitants and a supermarket, that does not stock butter milk.
We made it into Clyde River in the morning. There was a bit of a waiting time, during which the ship and the people on it got cleared into Canada – obviously we were only allowed ashore afterward. Conveniently that waiting time did concur with breakfast and with my zodiac group being the last to leave, there was plenty of time for breakfast, seconds and thirds … and more tea ????
Once ashore we had a guided tour around town culminating at the local gymnasium – which also doubles as a cultural center – for a performance of traditional arts (throat singing and drum dancing). There was also an opportunity to get some first, home-made souvenirs. We continued our way through the community and made it back to the ship. Supposedly we had been the first ship to call in three years.
