Disko Bay Cruising

Now that we had seen the icefjord, it was time to actually get a glimpse of its product. We left Ilulissat and made it out into the Disko Bay for a close encounter with the icebergs recently produced by the glacier and spit out through the icefjord.

While cruising we had company of a few fin and humpback whales – – so a perfect day just turning more perfect 😉

Similar to two years back zodiacs were let into the water and we were invited for a zodiac cruise to get closer to the icebergs and get a closer-by experience of the scenery and (once more) the sheer size and magnitude of the icebergs … crazy and impossible to put in words – especially when considering, that we were only looking at about 15% of the acual iceberg volume here (with the rest under the water level).

Later the day we had another encounter – Hanseatic’s sister ship Bremen was also on cruise in the Disko Bay. The ships – given their schedules and itineraries – do not meet too often; so this was a special opportunity for those of the crew and guests, that had either already been on the Bremen or friends or acquaintances over there.
