Business got me traveling again … this time to Markham in Ontario, Canada. With that stupid ‘stay Saturday to Sunday night’ rule still in place for direct flights from Frankfurt to Toronto, it turned out, that flying a day earlier would save a couple of hundred EURs. So a colleague and myself made it over to Markham on Saturday and now had to work out a plan for Sunday. With Niagara Falls in relative proximity (about three to four hours driving) we decided for a day trip to the falls. Given the long ride, we decided to go via an organized tour.
So on Sunday morning we were picked up in our hotel around 7:30, made it to the tour company’s main office in downtown Toronto, from where the bus tour to the falls started at around 09:00. We arrived at the falls at about 10:45 – here we had a good three hours to enjoy the falls and all the other attractions (i.e. the tourist trap) around. At 13:00 we continued North along the Niagara River having a couple of stops for some good views (including the whirlpool, the hydro power plants and the flower clock) – until we finally reached the little city of Niagara-by-the-Lake for another stop. We left here around 16:30 and made it to our last stop at a local winery, to sample their ice wine. From here it was back to Toronto (where we good an unintended, yet included tour of downtown Toronto as well) and on to Markham, where we arrived at around 20:30.
