Today’s visit around Dushanbe included a trip to the Hissor Fort (about 30km West of Dushanbe).
The fortress dates back to the 18th century and links to the rulers of Bukhara – indeed it may have been used as a residence of one of the governors of Bukhara.
Most of what can seen of the fort, the registan and the caravansary is reconstructed though … so while looking nice on pictures, it does not spread the same sense of history as the non-reconstructed or carefully reconstructed places, we had seen during the trip.
The fort indeed makes such a good backdrop, that many wedding couples actually pick the square in front of the fort for part of their celebrations (including of course photo opportunities); we were lucky enough, to witness some of the wedding rumpus in front of the fort.
