Over night we had covered 150 nautical miles, now sitting at Southern tip of Fergusson Island, the biggest of the D’Entrecasteaux-Inseln.
Our morning adventure was just around the corner. We made it ashore (wet landing) at the small village Sebulugomwa; here we were – after a change of shoes (from water shoes to proper hiking boots) greeted by village chief. We were then split up in smaller groups and assigned a guide for the coming 20min walk to the Dei Dei geothermal field – with hot springs and geysers.
My group ended up getting smaller and smaller – in the end two of us ended up with a private tour around the geothermal area and also for the way back to the village. Here we also had a chance to look around and spend some kinas (well – dollars, as we did not have kinas) at the small market, the locals had set up. Here they not only sold souvenirs to tourists, but were also catering for themselves, incl. all needed for betel chewing (our guide was also a heavy consumer of the stuff).
After return to the landing site and a quick shoe change later, it was back into the zodiac and to the ship – for lunch and the coming adventures.
