We had a lazy morning today – at sea and with a northerly course – on our way to Tuam Island – a journey of 232 nautical miles from yesterday’s stop at Tufi.
Today we were looking a wet landing at a beach at the North side of the island; a short walk of about 400m got us into town.
In town, various cultural groups were waiting for us. Instead of a big show with all groups performing after each other, each group here had its performance spot – and us, the spectators were – as we moved through the village – going from one group to the next. So, a very different approach to what we had seen previously – and one that catered for better and more close-up views. The variety of groups was great – and so was the walk through the village, with some showcases of local crafts (similar to Tufi) and souvenir opportunities.
Upon leaving the village, I took a detour via the school (with the guidance of the son of the local mechanic) and then back to the beach, for a bit of snorkeling through an initially underwhelming underwater world. This turned into beautiful further out, especially at the reef drop. I guess, I am getting to the point, where I probably should look into a underwater camera option.
