The ship had continued its journey North – we were now about 30km North from the polar bear sighting yesterday in the Palanderbukta (Palander Bay – named after a Swedish admiral and Arctic explorer).
The fog had lifted, so visibility was no concern anymore – instead we found ourselves in quiet some wind today that made a landing at the originally intended site impossible. The bridge eventually found a spot in the bay with less windy conditions – so a landing site was put up at around 79°33’58″N 20°37’19″E and we were allowed ashore.
Here we were greeted by the usual Arctic stone desert, a bit of flora and great views of the area. A short hike was offered up a hill along the ridge of a canyon, cut out by the river of a glacier further inland.
