After lunch it was time for some lighter content – and Simply Bhutan, a museum resembling a Bhutanese village showcasing some of the country’s traditions, hit the spot.
After a welcome with a shot of local liquor (arra) we were introduced to various aspects of Bhutanese life – incl. an opportunity to try butter tea and give archery a go; no volunteers for dancing though. Fun – yet educational.
Our next destination was what is is likely the grandest building of town – Tashichho Dzong. Another fortified monastery, which also serves as a seat of Bhutan’s government. The tour concluded at the Centenary Farmers Market with a chance to explore this market – and then go back to the usual quest for cake and souvenirs.
