We got to El Chalten – self proclaimed Outdoor Capital of Argentina – in the late evening, basically getting there straight from our visit to Perito Moreno Glacier.
We stopped at a view point shortly before town to get a glimpse of the mountains around us – including the mighty Fitzroy.
Today was dedicated to full day hike up to Laguna de los Tres, a proper hike with more than 20 km and some tough uphill sections in not so good weather conditions.
The first half of the trek went through windswept forests, beside small lakes and over some smaller streams. Then it changed to a tough uphill path over rock and later on snow. Weather was more Patagonian to what we had experienced in Torres del Paine, with loads of wind with, some rain or snowfall – together forming what our guide called Patagonian Needles (imagine a raindrop at 60 km/h hitting your face horizontally) – overall still a good hike with some good views.
