From Tallinn to Haapsalu …

We were leaving Tallinn this morning – – before leaving town though, we had a quick bus tour to some sights a bit further away from the center. The first stop was at the Tallinn Song Festival Grounds (Tallinna Lauluväljak), followed by one at Kumu, Tallinn’s famous art museum. From Kumu we made it down to Kadriorg Park by foot (a déjà vu to me), walking past the palace and the wooden houses, Kadriorg is famous for.

It now was back to the bus – our next stop being a good hour away – the destination being Haapsalu and its Railway Museum. The museum turned out to be an odd one – the main theme here seemed to be on communication (and not on trains or station management, as one would expect). There were tv sets, telephones and radios from all eras on display. Half the group joined in for a game of “spot your first mobile phone”.

A quick busride got us to the Väike viik lake; we took a walk along its shore, to eventually turn towards the Baltic Sea – and soon find ourselves walking along the seashore. After passing by the Kuursaal building (now a restaurant) and a polar bear encounter, we made it back into town and for Haapsalu Castle. We passed through the grounds of this partially ruined medieval bishop’s castle – getting in the view, but without time for the museum.
