Today we were aiming high – looking at tackling the highest point of the island.
We kicked it off in the morning with an uphill bus drive; we had our first stop after a 26km drive at the Boca Tauce Viewpoint well above 2000m above sea level. From here we had great views of the Teide and its peak. The stop at the nearby La Ruleta Viewpoint was also the start for a hike around the Roques de García – rock formations or magma columns just South of Teide’s peak. It took us about two hours (including stops) to cover the 4km hike – with great views of the formations (with names like “the cathedral” or “god’s finger”) and of course the Teide.
