Bye-bye Japan – on to Seoul

After a bit more than a month in Japan I had completed my itinerary across Northern Honshu and around Hokkaido – diving into a less touristy part of Japan … well worth the trip – and I might be back for more, especially Eastern Hokkaido.

Well – now it was on to my next stop … a short flight get me to Incheon for a good two weeks in  Korea. After arrival I made it to downtown for my guesthouse and some first exploration.

Thursday I experienced the worst weather of the trip so far … rain, rain and more rain. I quickly made up my mind and scrapped my plan to go down to Suwon for the fort – and instead made it a museum day. I first checked out the Dongdaemun area – this had been a massive construction site when I last had been here, now tuned into the Dongdaemun Design Plaza with some really impressive architecture. From here I continued to the excellent National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art and its permanent exhibition featuring Korean art from the 1960s to today.

By the time I was done the rain had subsided – and I enjoyed a leisurely stroll around town, a stop at Deoksugung Palace and over to Seoul station for Seoullo 7017.
