Today I was heading North of downtown Ipoh for Perak Tong Temple, another cave temple with great rock paintings and the option to follow a path to the top of the limestone carst for a bit of a view of the surrounding area.
While there was not that much to see from the top, the temple itself was simply amazing – with well positioned statues, well fitting paintings and overall a very relaxed atmosphere.
From here I continued to city museum and the Han Chin Pet Soo Museum. While the first provided a good overview of Ipoh’s history, the latter one was specific on the tin mining period. Han Chin Pet Soo is the former clubhouse of rich and influential Chinese immigrant tin miners (resp. mine owners) – with show-cases of the members’ activities in the club (well – concubine lane is just around the corner – go, figure).
I spent the rest of the day around downtown, checking out the street art … until eventually I made it back to the hotel – to get packed for the trip back to Germany the day after.
