Lake Titicaca

We left the hotel early (once more) to get transferred to Puno’s port. From here we took a boat out on the lake.

The Uros floating Islands have been our first stop, including a short trip in a reed boat. After arrival on one of the islands we got together to get an introduction about the culture of the people living here, as well as the way, these islands are built.

After a further two hour boat ride we arrived at Amantani Island. Here we were split to different host families. Damien and myself ended up with Lorenza, her daughter Olga and her (Olga’s) son Rocko. After lunch we met the others again – for a game of football against our guides (we lost 1:5), followed by a walk to the top of the island (4100m above sea and 300m above lake level).

About 45 minutes before our arrival we got an introduction to Quechua, the local language – at least to be able to speak the most basic things (thanks, please, hello, etc.).

In the evening the local Inca-thek was open for business. Tourists and locals were in traditional clothing (for guys simply a poncho – for girls quiet a bit more), music was live and local – as was the dancing (once we got there).
