Today we went for a detailed walking tour through Bukhara.
First stop was literally around the corner at the Kalon Mosque with its minaret and the Mir-i-Arab Medressa on the other side of the square.
While the Mir-i-Arab medressa is an active – complete with pupils and teachers – the medressas, we visited next – Abdul Aziz Khan and Ulugbek Medressa – were nothing more than souvenir malls in historic walls.
From here we continued through a pedestrian area and a bazaar (of course with further options to hunt some souvenirs) to the oldest surviving mosque in Central Asia – the Maghoki-Attar Mosque.
Soon after lunch was served (for a long time) – after which we got into the Bukhara’s backstreets to see the Char Minar – the gatehouse of a former medressa.
We finished this busy sightseeing day with a visit of the Ark – the royal residence and fort – Bukhara’s oldest structure … before tea time in a little tea house.
