Mokka Fjord

Today we had a very short night, with a shore landing already scheduled for 6:00 in the morning. My zodiac group was the first to go; a small breakfast selection had already been available, so at least we did not have to go hungry.

Once ashore (79°30’33.7″N 87°22’32.5″W) we made it up a hill – just to stumble over the remains of an Inuit tent settlement. Based on the lichen on the stones, those remains did date back for at least a couple of centuries. We continued on – following a small river into the valley – to finally come to a stop at a lake … with some good views on the way.

Based on the tracks we saw during the walk, there must have been an abundance of wildlife around (supposedly some musk ox and wolves were to be seen in some distance). This abundance is also confirmed by loads of shattered bones around on the ground near the lake and most likely the reason for setting up a tent settlement nearby.
