Santa Claus at Uummannaq

At around 10:00 those passengers up for a little walk met at the town’s church. The walk would bring us to the other side of the island to the little bay with the summer house (or should I say hut) of Santa Claus.

The hut goes back to the 1980s, when the Danish television had produced a Christmas series here in Uummannaq. The hut remained and now makes the destination of a popular tourist walk. Find the intro to the series here.

The walk out took us about an hour; at the hut we were greeted by the chef de cuisine dressed as Santa Claus and his helpers handing out mulled wine and traditional Christmas cookies (Zimtsterne, Vanillekipferl and macaroons).
The walk back followed the same path, but – due to slight changes in the cloud cover – with different views.
