Siorapaluk

We spent the night crossing Baffin Bay on our journey back to Greenland. We made it to Siorapaluk in the early morning and soon after (a not too early) breakfast got ashore.

Siorapaluk is the northernmost natural settlement on the planet, i.e. this is the northernmost point on Earth, where humans settled in subsistence. There are settlements further North, though those did only come to life for military purposes or as bases for resource exploitation (e.g. coal mining on Svalbard).
Life here is still following the traditional ways, with survival depending on fishing and hunting. The result of which is well visible around town with animal bones around everywhere and the occasional seal carcass.

Overall the village makes a much cheerful and inviting impression than the ones we had seen in Canada. Certainly rubbish was under better control here compared to Canada.

We made it back to the ship in the late morning and were headed for Qaanaaq.
