Exploring Khorog

We were staying in Khorog today – so no (or very limited) dusty roads for us today.

Instead we spent the day exploring Khorog. In the morning we started with a visit to the Pamir Botanical Garden, overlooking the city. The botanical garden was certainly not the most well looked after botanical garden ever, though still it was nice having a walk here.

From the botanical garden we made it downtown, had a walk through the well appointed city park, to visit the tourist office and the local handicraft shop (and guess, who got a pair of slippers … 🙂 ). From the tourist office we continued to the regional museum and then into the local market (with further shopping opportunities).

From the market we were heading to a riverside restaurants for probably the best lunch of the whole trip. Lunch was comprised of the usual components (soap, followed by meat-based dish), though unusually tasteful – and accompanied by salad, yogurt, herbs and loads of fresh and sweet fruit.

After lunch we had some free time in town, which I used to get a proper espresso. We made it back to our hotel in the afternoon – but not without a stop at a supermarket, to stock up on our favorite Baltika number – or try a new one (… and zero is not too bad).
