West Coast Impressions

The sun was out today and the sky blue – a perfect day for another hike.

A short drive got us from Calheta to Prazeres, where we started our hike along the Levada Faja. The hike here was an easy and even levada hike, staying on one level along the hillside at about 650m above sea level. There were plenty of great views of the Atlantic Ocean along the way. We followed the levada for about 11km, to then make a short uphill trip to a bakery in Faja Da Ovelha and an opportunity for coffee and a Pastel de Nata.

The bus was waiting at the bakery – and we made our way down to the coast and the town of Jardim Do Mar for a tour around town – and an opportunity for a West Coast poncha (which was simply a version of the standard poncha). We eventually continued for a further stop at Paul Do Mar a few kilometers down the road (well – most of which by tunnel), where we – again – spend some time, exploring town.
