Today we spent a full day around the Shyok and Nubra River valleys. We left camp in the morning for the 60km trip over to Panamik for its hotsprings. Here we had the opportunity for a dip into the hot water – I skipped, given the construction site setup around. Works were still ongoing to repair the damage done by a land slide some time before; facilities as such were limited – for instance there were no working toilets.
What did work was the little cafe next to the springs, offering what would turn out as the best momos (called “mokmok” here) of the whole trip (at least to my taste … I should have had more); and the rather business-savvy cafe proprietor certainly added to the fun.
We made it back the same way with a photo stop around some stupas near Pinchimik. A late lunch was had at the shore of Thanglasgo river – along with another opportunity for a dip (in now much colder water). The nearby Skalzang Mane temple site with stupas, maniwalls and a Buddha statue provided a great break – and (after a bit of a climb) great views.
