We got back to camp in the afternoon. After a break – to avoid the midday heat – we regrouped again in the early evening for the short trip to Rizong Monastery, a Gelupa sect monastery established in 1831.
After the usual visit of the monastery we had the option to close the day in an active fashion and hike the way back to the main road – overall slightly less than 6km and an elevation loss of about 300m. The hike got us along the same road that we had come in on earlier; it was an enjoyable change to walk along the Wuleh Tokpo River – and certainly better than another trip in the car. We were even lucky to see some local wildlife (identified as deer, albeit from rather blurry photos) on the way.
