Over lunch – with a schnitzel special (which to me just felt wrong) – the ship had moved 5 nautical miles and we were now looking at Dobu Island.
The focus in the morning had been on nature – the afternoon now had a cultural flavor to it. Key attraction here was the exhibition of artifacts from the kula ring – a ceremonial exchange system conducted between the islands of the region. Next to those artifacts local handcraft (incl. palm weaving, cooking) was showcased. The islanders also had prepared a cultural performance, complete with singing, dancing and even a healing ritual.
After the performance it was possible, to have a look around the village, check out the church or get some souvenirs. In the late afternoon all were back to the ship, to continue the journey.
