Cape of good Hope

I decided to follow a more active approach for my trip to the Cape of good Hope, so booked myself into a more alternative “hiking & biking” tour.

We kicked it off in Cape Town, followed the scenic road along the Atlantic ocean for a first stop in Hout Bay, where we used the opportunity to jump on a boat (along with a unbelievably loud group of Chinese tourists) to get out to seal island for a first glimpse of wildlife.

After that we continued to Simon’s Town to see the African Penguins at the beach of Boulders. The first (of many) penguins for this trip … they reminded me of the Magellanic Penguins, I had seen in Patagonia … some 7000 km away …

From Boulders it was only a short drive to the entrance of the park, where we changed to bikes to continue all the way down to the cape. Driving on a bike was amazing, as one could directly feel the wind and special climate on the cape peninsula – kind of reminding me of the climate on a high elevation mountain plateau.

Once we hit the cape – and after some time to take photos – we continued to the base of the lighthouse cliff, where we had the opportunity for a short hike up to the lighthouse for some more amazing views of the cape and the peninsula.
