Gerlache Strait

We reached the South Shetland Islands in the early morning of the 4th … unfortunately the weather (once more) was against us – in heavy winds and snowfall there was no possibility for landing on any of the islands. We now continued to the calmer conditions around the Antarctic peninsula.

We entered the area through the Gerlache Strait – with the Antarctic continent portside, Anvers and Brabant Island starboard – in proper Antarctic surroundings.
