The Nazca Lines

The Nazca Lines are one of those wonders, where no-one actually knows how, when and why they are here. As usual there are plenty of theories, including some that even involve extraterrestrials…

The most likely scenario though seems to be, that the lines have been created by several people over centuries and millennia – with the earliest culture dating back to as far as 900 b.c. and the youngest to around 600 a.d.

The question about their purpose also returns an array of possibilities – from being an astronomical calendar, running tracks – to signs for extraterrestrials… Just have a look yourself.

Huacachina

After our wildlife adventure around the Ballestas Islands we boarded a bus for Ica, from where we continued by taxi to the oasis town of Huacachina.

After a magical lunch we hopped on some sand buggies to enjoy a dessert roller coaster ride (just without the tracks), followed by some sand boarding action thereafter.

Lima

I had arrived in Lima on the 22nd and now had a good one and half day on my own before my trip through Peru to La Paz would start.

I spent the time exploring (mainly) downtown Lima and its museums and cathedrals. Once the tour started on the 24th, Carla (our tour leader) gave us the proper introduction to town during a walking tour around downtown.
