The third week of the trip was to start today … Natalia referred to it as the relaxing part. Also the group composition changed; only three of us continued, so we got nine newbies on the group … now coming from Australia and Canada.
We left Havana midday and made our way into Viñales (after an extended lunch stop) in the afternoon. Here we moved into our casas – to then meet up again and go for a walk around town.

We had one full day in Havana … I had already seen, what I had high on my list, so I took it easy today … with more explorations in Habana Vieja and another round on the tourist bus.
This day we made it back to the capital by plane – actually we were flying to an unfinished airport outside of Havana … as it turned out we had flown from Baracoa to Playa de Baracoa.
We made it back into town – this time staying in a bigger casa in Habana Vieja – with a nice rooftop terrace providing great views of town.

After our arrival to Baracoa Natalia took us for a tour to show us the highlights (malecon, cathedral) and essentials (cadeca, supermarket etc.) of town. The tour ended with a walk up to Hotel El Castillo – in time for a sunset drink.
Today we continued from Santiago de Cuba to Baracoa.
Up into 1960s Baracoa had no direct connection to the outside world; it could only be reached by sea. This changed 1964 when La Farola was opened … a street crossing over mountains of the Sierra del Puril – today considered one of Cuba’s seven engineering wonders.
