I flew up from San Francisco to Seattle, arrived there around midday. After dumping my luggage in the hotel (literally on the other side of the street from Seattle Tacoma Airport) I made my way by commuter train into town. Here I changed to the monorail – a left-over of the 1962 world fair, built to move the masses from downtown to the Space Needle – now also my destination.
Taking the monorail had a Jetson feeling … back from the atomic age, with endless and risk-free (remember … duck and cover) energy for everyone … and arriving at the Space Needle kind of confirmed that feeling … amazing – considering that this is how they – 50 years back – pictured us living today.
After coming down again from the Space Needle I visited the nearby Science Fiction and Music museum (EMP … Experience Music Project) before making my way back to downtown (for a tea at Starbucks in the city where Starbucks actually got started) and – later on – the shores of Elliott Bay.
