Today we left Tokyo behind and proceeded into the Japanese Alps and the traditional town of Takayama and our first ryokan and onsen experience. The experience also included a traditional dinner: hida beef, grilled on a Magnolia leaf.

I made it into Tokyo on rainy morning after a total of 14 hours in the air (and some time at LHR airport).
As usual (I guess, I may use ‘as usual’ meanwhile) I checked in to the hotel, took a shower and then started discovering the surrounding area – in this case the Asakusa area of Tokyo, including the Senso-Ji temple.
In the evening the group came together for an initial group meeting. Luke – our tour leader gave the usual plus some Japan specific pieces of information, afterward he took us to a very Japanese restaurant … one, where the main interaction was through vending machine.

Our last day in Boulder; all of us were bound to leave during the next day. Diane brought us up Flagstaff Road to have a last view of town and the Flatirons.

We now were on the final leg of the trip … we left Caye Caulker, made it back to Belize City, from where we caught a bus up to Chetumal in Mexico – and then on to Playa del Carmen – the final stop on this trip.
We once more had a last group dinner – this time in a cave restaurant in Playa del Carmen.
We left Guatemala on the 9th and went on into Belize for a new country, currency, language and culture. The first stop was San Ignacio, a small (and ugly) town and the gateway to all sorts of jungle and cave activities.
Most of the group did not have a great desire to stay on in San Ignacio and thus left the tour to move ahead to Caye Caulker; I was one of these. We left early in the morning of the 10th, took the express bus to Belize City (via Belmopan), from there the water taxi and arrived on the island around nine – just in time for breakfast. We now had one additional day on the island – two and half now in total – enough time for me to finish my open water diving course.
The first day on the island was used to get everything arranged (in my case diving lessons for the next two days) – there was even time to go on a guided snorkelling tour with Mario. After that – at least for me – it was diving lessons and learning.
